2004 | May | Klintron’s Brain

2004 | May | Klintron’s Brain Archive for February, 2008 Does KFC use mutant chickens? I hear this rumor from far to many people who really should know better, so I thought I’d link to the Snopes page about the KFC rumor . Posted at 7pm on 5/29/04 | 2 comments | Filed Under: Media, Design, and Marketing | by Klintron Back in Heidelburg, plus quick blog-design question I got back to Heidelburg a couple days ago and will be here a couple days more. Then it’s back to the United States and quite likely more traveling there. Completely unrelated question: it’s old web usability design knowledge that links should go down the right hand side of the screen, so they’re close to the scroll bar. But on a blog, where should the blogroll go? In a link-heavy blog, it seems that perhaps the body of the blog itself should be on the right rather than the blogroll. But most popular blogs, including ones by usability professionals , have the blogroll on the right side. Is it best to keep the blogroll on the right side, to conform to standards? Keeping the blogroll on the right also follows another standard: reading left to right.

Technology update: Real-time SLA monitoring tools

Technology update: Real-time SLA monitoring tools Yet true SLA verification is within reach. New classes of hardware, called verifiers, sit at the demarcation point between a customer and service provider - and eliminate the blur that has prevented accurate service measurement by offering the information in real time. This also eliminates the finger-pointing that weakens relationships with service providers. How it Works Identifying service demarcation points, or demarcs, delineates the "change of control" boundary where a provider's network begins and a customer's network ends. Enterprise customers simply plug verifiers in-line next to a router or firewall. Verifiers run a real-time operating system and application-specific test modules. For pervasive SLA verification, verifiers must sit in-line without interrupting it, which means a dedicated hardware verifier. Verifiers time-stamp packets. Active synthetic transaction tests and passive monitoring use the time-stamp engine to maximize test accuracy. Once hooked up to the Internet, a verifier learns, through an automatic rendezvous protocol, which server to talk with.
